Full-Stack Developer / Product Engineer (m/f/d) – TypeScript & AI

We're hiring

At TravelWorks, we're rebuilding the technology behind our multi-million-euro educational travel business. Our goal: to replace a 15-year-old patchwork of systems with one modern, Cloudflare-native platform to make the customer journey more seamless, personal and human, from first search to return. As our only in-house engineer, you own the platform end to end. You work directly with leadership and colleagues from sales, marketing, operations and content, and collaborate daily with an AI coding agent. There's no separate product manager for the platform: you help decide what to build, build it and verify it in production.

Your mission

  • Turn requests from sales, marketing, operations and content into clear priorities and practical solutions
  • Make product and technical decisions independently, and escalate when customer safety, sensitive data or major commercial risk is involved
  • Ship improvements across backend, frontends, AI systems and our catalog pipeline
  • Direct the AI coding agent: plan, review its changes and verify results on the live system
  • Take Klara, our voice and chat agent, from internal testing to a safe, compliant and valuable customer experience
  • Own catalog data quality and production processes: imports, deployments, monitoring and incident response
  • Keep colleagues informed about what changed, what's open and why

Your profile

  • At least 2 years of experience building and operating production applications with TypeScript, across backend, frontend, data and operations
  • Experience with LLMs, retrieval or AI agents, or strong full-stack skills and a clear interest in growing into AI
  • You use SQL, logs, tests and live-system checks to establish facts before proposing solutions
  • You know that AI-generated code still needs human judgement and verification
  • Experience building software in a business context with regulatory requirements: you handle personal data in line with GDPR, apply privacy and security by design, and take compliance seriously. Familiarity with the EU AI Act, payment processes or data of minors is a plus.
  • You think like an engineer and a product manager, work autonomously, judge risk well and are transparent about progress, risks and mistakes. You learn fast.
  • You look beyond individual tickets to understand the customer problem, business context and intended outcome. You actively identify opportunities and take ownership from the proposed solution through implementation and verification.
  • You create clarity from competing stakeholder needs by using data and evidence to set priorities, make trade-offs visible and bring colleagues along on what comes first and why.
  • Excellent written and spoken German (C2 level)
  • Very good written and spoken English: you explain technical decisions clearly and write clear technical documentation, which for our platform is in English
  • Experience with Cloudflare, D1, React Native or Expo is a plus, but we don't expect you to know our whole stack
